By examining how illness and health are symbolized through creativity,

this lecture profiles Creativity for Health

— a program with a foundation in research and theory that utilizes nonverbal and symbolic, as well as verbal and linear, modes of expression to reduce stress and enhance personal well being for patients, family members, and health-care professionals. Through methods such as art, meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, dance/movement, and writing, symbolic understanding and coping mechanisms are enhanced as the creative act is seen as a courageous affirmation of life.
